Born in Los Angeles in 1927, Dead in Mexico in 2020
2007: first encounter with James Brown through this work presented at the Bordas gallery in Venice: “Internal order monotype I”. It was at this time that my infatuation with this artist was revealed, and has never wavered, or even asserted itself over time.
Galerie PJ is pleased to present “Brown on brown”, a James Brown exhibition featuring a selection of works on paper from 1989 to 2001. On view are watercolors, monotypes, lithographs, stencils, collages and multiple interventions.
In the common space, the canvas maps present their surfaces and depths, encompassing their surfaces in blue (Blue cell…), black, brown or white forms, sometimes even accompanied by emblematic figures from the sacred Amerindian land.
Then, beyond other media, we offer you a different vision of his work, revealing his “entomological memories”, a blossoming of colors accompanying you towards his most beautiful face-to-face: “Happy Prince / Monotype Georges”.
Let your emotions carry you along, and you’ll disappear and reappear.
(disappeared and reappeared). The Fifteen Indians are there to remind you.
Then come the hydrangea shapes, leading you to the “constellations” in the same way.
Line grey shape” to the “constellations”.
