YEO Jun Hwan

Born in 1983, works and lives in Seoul, South Korea.

The Charmix series reflects on the nature of our desires and material possessions. Indeed, the small objects on the canvases in the Charmix series are light, colorful and shiny, offering ephemeral visual pleasure. Ultimately, these objects arouse a deep, immediate desire that is never satisfied. Charmix celebrates a certain relative beauty by inviting us to recall redundant childhood memories. Charmix reminds us that these fantasy worlds offer an escape from reality, a way for some to connect with a form of imagination and creativity.

However, Charmix also invites us to reflect on the ephemeral and superficial nature of our possessions, material desires and consumerism. Behind the flat surface of the canvas, beyond the shiny world of these consumer objects, may lie a real inner wealth. Precious memories and experiences can then appear, outside and inside any consumerist system. Charmix reminds us that the things we cherish most are often intangible and volatile. The true value of life may lie in the relationship, experience and emotion we share with others and the world around us.

Charmix is a series that invites us to reflect on our relationship with consumer objects, on the nature of our desires, and on what gives value to our lives.
