Lauren Clay / 로렌 클레이

로렌 클레이는 서배너 칼리지 오브 아트 앤 디자인에서 회화 전공 학사(BFA)를, 버지니아 커먼웰스 대학교에서 회화 및 판화 전공 석사(MFA)를 취득했다. 조지아주 애틀랜타 출신인 클레이는 현재 뉴욕에서 거주하며 작업하고 있다. 그녀는 미국 내외에서 활발히 전시를 이어왔으며, 뉴욕의 Picture Theory, 뉴멕시코의 로스웰 미술관(Roswell Museum of Fine Arts), 런던의 Bosse & Baum, 댈러스의 Cris Worley Fine Arts에서 개인전을 개최했다. 또한 뉴욕 브루클린 아카데미 오브 뮤직(Brooklyn Academy of Music), 뉴욕주 암스테르담의 월터 엘우드 미술관(Walter Elwood Museum), 싱가포르의 에르메스 플래그십 스토어를 위해 장소 특정적 설치 작업을 선보였다.

2019년과 2017년에 클레이는 작가 피터 할리(Peter Halley)와 협업하여 이탈리아 베니스에서 열린 2019년 베니스 비엔날레와 연계된 프로젝트를 비롯해, 크로아티아 스플리트의 Galerija Kula, 대한민국 서울의 Paradise City에서 여러 프로젝트를 진행했다. 그녀의 작업은 Artforum, Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, Sculpture Magazine, BOMB Magazine, Hi-Fructose Magazine 등 다양한 매체에서 비평되었다. 클레이는 2019년 폴록-크라스너 재단(Pollock-Krasner Foundation) 보조금을 수상했으며, 2020년에는 Foundation for Contemporary Arts의 보조금을 받았다. 2022년에는 뉴멕시코 로스웰의 Roswell Artist-in-Residence 프로그램에 선정되어 레지던시에 참여했다.

클레이의 한정판 아티스트 북 Subtle Body(2016, Small Editions NY 출판)는 메트로폴리탄 미술관, 휘트니 미술관, 브루클린 미술관, 워커 아트 센터, 예일 대학교 도서관 등 여러 기관의 소장 컬렉션에 포함되어 있다.
