Hervé Bordas
1952 년 파리 출생, 1990년 이후 베니스에서 거주 작업중 작가 헤르베 보르다스의 작품은 작가 본인 조차 결정 짓지 못하는 추상과 구상의 애매모호한 경계에 자리잡고 있다. 그의경계는 스스로 찢어지고 일탈을 반복하며 세상을 찾아 헤메고 한밤중의 사막을 방황하여 그만의 작품세계를 만들어 가고있다. 숲 속의 나무부터 한 행렬의 실루엣, 어느 한 순간이나 인물의 연속성, 눈 속의 군인들, 시골로 돌아가는 얼어붙은 병사들, 선두에 서 있는 깃발, 유령들의 초상, 최근에는 나무의 형상, 산호들의 호흡 혹은 강의 삼각주, 몽타주의 측면, 녹아 내린 눈…우리의 세계는 형상이 존재하면서 존재하지 않는다. 이것이 작가가 탐구하고 있는 본질적인 질문이다. 지질학적이면서도 에로스적인 세계, 무한하게 뻗쳐 나가는 가지들과 마찬가지로 손에 있는 많은 수 선들과 보이지 않는 선들로 이어진 밤하늘의 별자리, 작가가 말하는 우리의 삶과 별들의 차이는 존재함 혹은 존재하지 않음이 좁혀져 있는 모습의 반영이다. 그가 추구하는 작품 세계는 분할되고 연상되는 현상이며 그것은 곧 우리의 성좌이다. 형체가 변화하며 스스로 닫히고 열리는 것을 반복하며 다른 형체가 형성된다. 몇 분, 몇 시간, 몇 일 혹은 몇 년에 걸쳐 ‘하다’라는 연금술과 함께 차곡차곡 완성이 된 작품들이 있다. 이 작품들 안의 이미지는 잘 고정되어 있어야 한다. 앙리 미쇼나 파울 클레같은 작품들은 문자에 실제로 더 위치해 있으며. 그림 관람자들이 곧 독자가 되며 작품에 이미 가까이 있음에도 불구하고 더 가까이 다가가야 한다. 돋보기로 봐야할 법 한 그들의 작품들은 나를 불쾌하게 하지는 않을 것이나 작품 안이 수많은 감각들이 활기로 북적거려야 할 것이다.
