Dominique FUNES

Born in 1962, lives and works in Moselle

Dominique Funes, introduced to painting and graphic arts at an early age, has consistently focused on exploring line and perspective, which form the foundation of his work. Through his large-scale paintings, monotypes created on intaglio presses, and sculptures crafted from industrial elements, he examines the tension between gesture and material, abstraction and physicality.

Contemporary repetitive music plays a central role in his creative process. Inspired by composers such as Steve Reich, Funes works in a soundscape that fosters a meditative immersion. These structured, cyclical, and universal rhythms fuel a dialogue between intuition and methodical reflection, with each gesture guided by deliberate thought. These sounds, deeply human, also resonate as an echo of collective memory, connecting the artist’s individual experience to broader, shared references.

Dominique Funes’ works are distinguished by meticulously crafted backgrounds, where depth and substance emerge through layered applications and erasures. This technical process, both demanding and sensitive, reflects the importance of memory and trace in his art. Each painting becomes a mental space, a bridge between personal introspection and collective reflection, blending memories, artistic exploration, and shared experiences.
