Shinpei Okawa
Born in 1983 in Tokyo, Japan, Shinpei Okawa (Graduated in 2009 from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Tokyo University of the Arts) is an artist whose practice intertwines personal memories, traces of others found in everyday scenes, and fragments of art history. His dense and layered compositions resemble visual palimpsests, where figures, objects, and textures overlap in a world that is both dreamlike and familiar. Through an intuitive process, he allows motifs to emerge organically, transcending personal intent. His works evoke a sense of temporal fluidity, where past and present coexist in a collage of fleeting impressions. Active in Japan and across Asia, Okawa continues to explore the intersections of memory, perception, and materiality.
His works are included in public collections, notably at Teikyo University (Tokyo) and the Gwangju Museum of Art (South Korea).
