SUN Da Hea

The artist explores the relationships between poetic expression in literature and sensory perception, associating impressions and sensations with inner sound while integrating geometry as a form of mathematical expression. She studies and precisely quantifies space to combine these concepts and express them visually.

By using the simplest three-dimensional forms as representations of physical space in our lives, her aim is to capture the essence of life that surrounds these structures or resides in their lyrical core. This work seeks to uncover an inherent rhythm through the repetition of similar or identical geometric elements or to explore universal rules that connect us to one another. The artist thus creates a unique visual expression by blending formal structures, poetic sensitivity, and the specific properties of fibers.

These creations rely on various artisanal techniques, such as translucency that delicately reveals the structures, sewing, embroidery, knitting, and printing. Textiles and fiber patterns become visual and poetic metaphors, inviting reflection and deeper understanding of our lives.

In this context, the geometric world seems to strive for fixed results based on precise rules, like a pre-written script. However, when a geometric unit is made from fibers, it symbolizes an atypical world without pre-established rules, thanks to its slightly irregular nature. This fiber then becomes a potential inner space, hidden within the geometry.

The artist’s inner spaces are countless, fragmented, floating, and without rules. Each fiber unit represents one of these inner worlds, and their connections form a larger space that contracts and expands unpredictably. Buttons play a central role by uniting these individual worlds and creating a special mosaic: they delicately bind the fibers while preserving their uniqueness. Through this “magic of buttons,” the artist connects unexpected worlds, creating a harmonious patchwork or poetic dissonances.

These fibers and buttons reveal an intimate and atypical space, capable of twisting, gliding, and infinitely multiplying. This work offers a reflection on how the small, unpredictable, and discordant fragments of our lives can come together to form a vibrant and organic unity.
